वृत्ते तु योगे अङ्कुरितानि यानि सन्तीह बीजानि धृतानि कुम्भे । येषां तु यो अंशो अङ्कुरितस्तदंशस् तेषां विवृद्धिं समुपैति नान्यः ॥ २४-११ ॥

After the Moon has passed through Rohiṇī, the astronomer shall examine the seeds; those that bear sprouts will thrive well in the year and the quantity that will be harvested will be in proportion to the quantity that have sprouted, in the case of each species of seed.

english translation

vRtte tu yoge aGkuritAni yAni santIha bIjAni dhRtAni kumbhe । yeSAM tu yo aMzo aGkuritastadaMzas teSAM vivRddhiM samupaiti nAnyaH ॥ 24-11 ॥

शान्तपक्षिमृगराविता दिशो निर्मलं वियदनिन्दितो अनिलः । शस्यते शशिनि रोहिणीगते मेघमारुतफलानि वच्म्यतः ॥ २४-१२ ॥

After the Moon has passed through the asterism of Rohiṇī, if there should be heard in every direction the sweet sound of birds and of animals, if the sky should be clear and the wind agreeable there will be prosperity in the land. We shall now proceed to state the effects of winds and clouds.

क्व चिदसितसितैः सितैः क्वचिच्च क्व चिदसितैर्भुजगैरिवाम्बुवाहैः । वलितजठरपृष्ठमात्रदृश्यैः स्फुरिततडिद्रसनैर्वृतं विशालैः ॥ २४-१३ ॥

At times, clouds appear pale and bright, and at other times, they resemble snakes carrying water; they are seen over limited stretches of sky, coiled like the belly and back of serpents, and are accompanied by flashes of lightning and heavy rain, spreading extensively.

kva cidasitasitaiH sitaiH kvacicca kva cidasitairbhujagairivAmbuvAhaiH । valitajaTharapRSThamAtradRzyaiH sphuritataDidrasanairvRtaM vizAlaiH ॥ 24-13 ॥

विकसितकमलौदरावदातैर् अरुणकरद्युतिरञ्जितौपकण्ठैः । छुरितं इव वियद्घनैर्विचित्रैर् मधुकरकुङ्कुमकिंशुकावदातैः ॥ २४-१४ ॥

The clouds unfold like blossoming lotuses, with edges tinged by the red radiance of the rising sun; they appear pierced with unusual dense formations, and are sprinkled with drops resembling honey, saffron, or pollen grains.

vikasitakamalaudarAvadAtair aruNakaradyutiraJjitaupakaNThaiH । churitaM iva viyadghanairvicitrair madhukarakuGkumakiMzukAvadAtaiH ॥ 24-14 ॥

असितघननिरुद्धं एव वा चलिततडित्सुरचापचित्रितम् । द्विपमहिषकुलऽकुलीकृतं वनं इव दावपरीतं अम्बरम् ॥ २४-१५ ॥

The dense, dark clouds may be compact and still, or marked by moving lightning streaks like the bow of a deity; the sky appears like a forest shaken by herds of buffaloes, as if the heavens themselves were overturned.
