अथ वाअञ्जनशैलशिलानिचयप्रतिरूपधरैः स्थगितं गगनम् । हिममौक्तिकशङ्खशशाङ्ककरद्युतिहारिभिरम्बुधरैरथ वा ॥ २४-१६ ॥

Or the sky appears as if suspended by mountains of dark rock and stones; or it shines with the brilliance of snow, pearls, conch-shells, and the moon, as though flooded by waves of rain and water.

atha vAaJjanazailazilAnicayapratirUpadharaiH sthagitaM gaganam । himamauktikazaGkhazazAGkakaradyutihAribhirambudharairatha vA ॥ 24-16 ॥

तडिद्धैमकक्ष्यैर्बलाकाग्रदन्तैः स्रवद्वारिदानैश्चलत्प्रान्तहस्तैः । विचित्रैन्द्रचापध्वजौच्छ्रायशोभैस् तमालालिनीलैर्वृतं चाब्दनागैः ॥ २४-१७ ॥

The clouds are streaked with lightning like the tusks of elephants; they pour down torrents of water with swift, sweeping motions. They are adorned with banners and flags of varied lightning, and the sky is veiled in deep shades of crimson and blue, like a swirling mass of rain-bearing clouds.

सन्ध्यानुरक्ते नभसि स्थितानाम् इन्दीवरश्यामरुचां घनानाम् । वृन्दानि पीताम्बरवेष्टितस्य कान्तिं हरेश्चोरयतां यदा वा ॥ २४-१८ ॥

When, at twilight, clouds tinged with shades of blue and gray hover in the sky, and masses of clouds, clothed in yellowish garments, gather, the brilliance of the Sun (or Hari) seems to be partially hidden or stolen.

sandhyAnurakte nabhasi sthitAnAm indIvarazyAmarucAM ghanAnAm । vRndAni pItAmbaraveSTitasya kAntiM harezcorayatAM yadA vA ॥ 24-18 ॥

सशिखिचातकदर्दुरनिःस्वनैर् यदि विमिश्रितमन्द्रपटुस्वनाः । खं अवतत्य दिगन्तविलम्बिनः सलिलदाः सलिलौघमुचः क्षितौ ॥ २४-१९ ॥

When the clouds give forth soft, low, and mixed sounds, like the cries of the chakravaka bird, and descend slowly across the horizon, they pour forth abundant water, releasing torrents of rain onto the earth.

sazikhicAtakadarduraniHsvanair yadi vimizritamandrapaTusvanAH । khaM avatatya digantavilambinaH saliladAH salilaughamucaH kSitau ॥ 24-19 ॥

निगदितरूपैर्जलधरजालैस् ञ्यहं अवरुद्धं द्व्यहं अथ वाअहः । यदि वियदेवं भवति सुभिक्षं मुदितजना च प्रचुरजला भूः ॥ २४-२० ॥

When the clouds, shaped as described, stretch their networks of rain across the sky, whether in one day, two, or more, then abundant rainfall occurs, and the land is filled with water, bringing joy to the people.

nigaditarUpairjaladharajAlais JyahaM avaruddhaM dvyahaM atha vAahaH । yadi viyadevaM bhavati subhikSaM muditajanA ca pracurajalA bhUH ॥ 24-20 ॥
