अथोपपदमाश्रित्य कथयामि फलं द्विज । युच्छुभत्वे भवेन्नृणां पुत्रदारादिजं सुखम् ॥ १॥
O Brahmin, now I tell you about Upa Pad, the auspiciousness of which will confer on the native happiness from progeny, wife etc. The Pad of Lagn, as discussed earlier, is of prime importance.
english translation
athopapadamAzritya kathayAmi phalaM dvija । yucchubhatve bhavennRNAM putradArAdijaM sukham ॥ 1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतनुभावपदं विप्र प्रधानं पदमुच्यते । तनोरनुचराद्यत् स्यादुपारूढं तदुच्यते ॥ २॥
Upa Pad is calculated for the Bhava, following the natal Lagn. This Upa Pad is also called Gaun Pad.
english translation
tanubhAvapadaM vipra pradhAnaM padamucyate । tanoranucarAdyat syAdupArUDhaM taducyate ॥ 2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदेवोपपदं नाम तथा गौणपदं स्मृतम् । शुभखेटगृहे तस्मिन् शुभग्रहयुतेक्षिते ॥ ३॥
O excellent of the Brahmins, if Upa Pad is yuti with, or receives a Drishti from a benefic Grah, one will obtain full happiness from progeny and spouse.
english translation
tadevopapadaM nAma tathA gauNapadaM smRtam । zubhakheTagRhe tasmin zubhagrahayutekSite ॥ 3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुत्रदारसुखं पूर्णं जायते द्विजसत्तम । पापग्रहयुते तत्र पापभे पापवीक्षिते ॥ ४॥
Should the Upa Pad be in a malefic‟s Rāśi, or receives a Drishti from, or is yuti with a malefic, one will become an ascetic and go without a wife.
english translation
putradArasukhaM pUrNaM jAyate dvijasattama । pApagrahayute tatra pApabhe pApavIkSite ॥ 4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रव्राजको भवेज्जतो दारहीनोऽथ वा नरः । शुभदृग्योगतो नैव योगोऽयं दारनाशकः ॥ ५॥
If (in the said circumstances) there be a benefic Drishti (on Upa Pad, or the related malefic), or a yuti, deprival of spouse will not come to pass.
english translation
pravrAjako bhavejjato dArahIno'tha vA naraH । zubhadRgyogato naiva yogo'yaM dAranAzakaH ॥ 5॥
