त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः । कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत् ॥ १६-२१॥
Desire, wrath and greed - this is the triple gateway to Naraka ( hell ), ruinous to the self. Therefore one should abandon these three.

काम, क्रोध और लोभ ये आत्मनाश के त्रिविध द्वार जीवात्माका पतन करनेवाले हैं, इसलिये इन तीनोंका त्याग कर देना चाहिये।

trividhaM narakasyedaM dvAraM nAzanamAtmanaH । kAmaH krodhastathA lobhastasmAdetattrayaM tyajet ॥ 16-21॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतैर्विमुक्तः कौन्तेय तमोद्वारैस्त्रिभिर्नरः । आचरत्यात्मनः श्रेयस्ततो याति परां गतिम् ॥ १६-२२॥
O Kaunteya ( Arjun ) ! A man, who has deserted these three gates of Narak ( hell ), does what is good for his Self and then reaches Paramgati ( the highest goal ).
english translation
हे कौन्तेय ! नरक के इन तीनों द्वारों से विमुक्त पुरुष अपने कल्याण के साधन का आचरण करता है और वह परमगतिको प्राप्त हो जाता है।

etairvimuktaH kaunteya tamodvAraistribhirnaraH । AcaratyAtmanaH zreyastato yAti parAM gatim ॥ 16-22॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयः शास्त्रविधिमुत्सृज्य वर्तते कामकारतः । न स सिद्धिमवाप्नोति न सुखं न परां गतिम् ॥ १६-२३॥
He who, abandoning the injunctions of the Shastras, acts under the influence of desire, attains neither perfection nor pleasure, nor Paramgati ( the supreme state ).

जो मनुष्य शास्त्रविधिको छोड़कर अपनी इच्छासे मनमाना आचरण करता है, वह न सिद्धि-(अन्तःकरणकी शुद्धि-) को, न सुखको और न परमगतिको ही प्राप्त होता है।

yaH zAstravidhimutsRjya vartate kAmakArataH । na sa siddhimavApnoti na sukhaM na parAM gatim ॥ 16-23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्माच्छास्त्रं प्रमाणं ते कार्याकार्यव्यवस्थितौ । ज्ञात्वा शास्त्रविधानोक्तं कर्म कर्तुमिहार्हसि ॥ १६-२४॥
Therefore, Shaastra ( the scripture ) is your authority as regards the determination of what is to be done and what is not to be done. After understanding (your) duty as presented by Shaastravidhi ( scriptural injunction ), you ought to perform (your duty) here.

अतः तेरे लिये कर्तव्य-अकर्तव्यकी व्यवस्थामें शास्त्र ही प्रमाण है -- ऐसा जानकर तू इस लोकमें शास्त्र-विधिसे नियत कर्तव्य कर्म करनेयोग्य है।

tasmAcchAstraM pramANaM te kAryAkAryavyavasthitau । jJAtvA zAstravidhAnoktaM karma kartumihArhasi ॥ 16-24॥
