कार्यकारणकर्तृत्वे हेतुः प्रकृतिरुच्यते । पुरुषः सुखदुःखानां भोक्तृत्वे हेतुरुच्यते ॥ १३-२१॥

The Prakrti is said to be the cause of agency to the body ( Karya ) and sense-organs ( Karan ). The self ( Purush ) is said to be the cause of experiencing pleasure and pain.

Indeed, the self (Purush ) seated in Prakriti experiences the Gunas born of Prakriti. Its attachment to these Gunas is the cause of birth in good and evil Yoni ( "place of origin" of species or cosmic entities ).
