पाखण्डाश्रमवर्णानां सवर्णाः कर्मसिद्धये । त एव विपरीताः स्युर्दूताः कर्मविपत्तये ॥ १ ॥
The messenger (the person who comes to call the physician to visit the patient) if belonging to the same class as of the pakhanda (low caste), asrama (stages of life) and varna (caste) portends success in treatment; but if he belongs to a different class, he portends failure in treatment
english translation
pAkhaNDAzramavarNAnAM savarNAH karmasiddhaye । ta eva viparItAH syurdUtAH karmavipattaye ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदीनं भीतं द्रुतं त्रस्तं रूक्षामङ्गलवादिनम् । शस्त्रिणं दण्डिनं षण्ढं मुण्डश्मश्रुजटाधरम् ॥ २ ॥
Asubha Duta – inauspicious messenger: The physician should not follow a messenger who is depressed, frightened, in a hurry, exhausted, or speaking harsh and inauspicious words; nor one who is carrying weapons or sticks, who is impotent, or who has a shaved head and moustache, or is wearing long, matted locks of hair.

dInaM bhItaM drutaM trastaM rUkSAmaGgalavAdinam । zastriNaM daNDinaM SaNDhaM muNDazmazrujaTAdharam ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअमङ्गलाह्वयं क्रूरकर्माणं मलिनं स्त्रियम् । अनेकं व्याधितं व्यङ्गं रक्तमाल्यानुलेपनम् ॥ ३ ॥
whose very name itself is inauspicious, who is committing cruel acts, is dirty, a woman messenger, more than one; a sick person, of mutilated body, putting on red coloured garlands and unguents;

amaGgalAhvayaM krUrakarmANaM malinaM striyam । anekaM vyAdhitaM vyaGgaM raktamAlyAnulepanam ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतैलपङ्काङ्कितं जीर्णविवर्णार्द्रैकवाससम् । खरोष्ट्रमहिषारूढं काष्ठलोष्टादिमर्दिनम् ॥ ४ ॥
smeared with oil or mud on the body; wearing old (torn), discoloured, wet cloth and single cloth;

tailapaGkAGkitaM jIrNavivarNArdraikavAsasam । kharoSTramahiSArUDhaM kASThaloSTAdimardinam ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनानुगच्चेद्भिषग्दूतमाह्वयन्तं च दूरतः । अशस्तचिन्तावचने नग्ने चिन्दति भिन्दति ॥ ५ ॥
