सार बलम् अग्रतः कृत्वा कोटीष्व् अनुसारं कुर्यात्, जघने तृतियिय सारम्, मध्ये फल्गु बलम् ॥
Having stationed the flower of the army in front, one should make the wings equally strong.

sAra balam agrataH kRtvA koTISv anusAraM kuryAt, jaghane tRtiyiya sAram, madhye phalgu balam ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptव्यूहं तु स्थापयित्वा पक्ष कक्ष उरस्यानाम् एकेन द्वाभ्यां वा प्रहरेत्, शेषैः प्रतिगृह्णीयात् ॥
he should strike the enemy with one or two of the divisions on the wings, flanks, and front, and capture the enemy by means of the rest of the troops.

vyUhaM tu sthApayitvA pakSa kakSa urasyAnAm ekena dvAbhyAM vA praharet, zeSaiH pratigRhNIyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयत् परस्य दुर्बलं वीत हस्त्य् अश्वं दूष्य अमात्यं कृत उपजापं वा तत् प्रभूत सारेण अभिहन्यात् ॥
When the enemy's force is weak, with few horses and elephants, and is contaminated with the intrigue of treacherous ministers, the conqueror should strike it with most of his best troops.
english translation
yat parasya durbalaM vIta hasty azvaM dUSya amAtyaM kRta upajApaM vA tat prabhUta sAreNa abhihanyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयद् वा परस्य सारिष्ठं तद् द्वि गुण सारेण अभिहन्यात् ॥
He should increase the numerical strength of that constituent of the army which is physically weak.

yad vA parasya sAriSThaM tad dvi guNa sAreNa abhihanyAt ॥
