कर्षक गो पालक वृद्धाः पूर्व भुक्तिका वा बाह्याः सेतूनाम् अभिज्ञा बहव एको वा निर्दिश्य सीम सेतून् विपरीत वेषाः सीमानं नयेयुः ॥
Elders among cultivators and herdsmen, or outsiders who have had the experience of former possession in the place, or one or many persons (not) personally acquainted with the boundary marks under dispute shall first describe the boundary marks, and then, wearing unusual dress (viparítaveshah), shall lead the people (to the place).
english translation
karSaka go pAlaka vRddhAH pUrva bhuktikA vA bAhyAH setUnAm abhijJA bahava eko vA nirdizya sIma setUn viparIta veSAH sImAnaM nayeyuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउद्दिष्टानां सेतूनाम् अदर्शने सहस्रं दण्डः ॥
If the boundary marks just described are not found, a fine of 1,000 panas shall be imposed (on the misleading or guilty person).
english translation
uddiSTAnAM setUnAm adarzane sahasraM daNDaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद् एव नीते सीम अपहारिणां सेतुच् छिदां च कुर्यात् ॥
If, however, they arrive at the exact spot, the party who have either encroached upon the boundary or have destroyed the boundary marks shall be similarly punished.
english translation
tad eva nIte sIma apahAriNAM setuc chidAM ca kuryAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रनष्ट सेतु भोगं वा सीमानं राजा यथा उपकारं विभजेत् ॥ इति सीम विवादः ॥
The king shall beneficially distribute among others those holdings which have no boundary-marks or which have ceased to be enjoyed by any person.
english translation
pranaSTa setu bhogaM vA sImAnaM rAjA yathA upakAraM vibhajet ॥ iti sIma vivAdaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptक्षेत्र विवादं सामन्त ग्राम वृद्धाः कुर्युः ॥
(Disputes about fields.) Disputes concerning fields shall be decided by the elders of the neighbourbood or of the village.
