जीवति भर्तरि मृतायाः पुत्रा दुहितरश् च स्त्री धनं विभजेरन्, अपुत्राया दुहितरः, तद् अभावे भर्ता ॥
If the husband is alive and the wife is dead, then her sons and daughters shall divide her property among themselves. If there are no sons, her daughters shall have it. In their absence her husband
english translation
jIvati bhartari mRtAyAH putrA duhitaraz ca strI dhanaM vibhajeran, aputrAyA duhitaraH, tad abhAve bhartA ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशुल्कम् अन्वाधेयम् अन्यद् वा बन्धुभिर् दत्तं बान्धवा हरेयुः ॥ इति स्त्री धन कल्पः ।
shall take that amount of money (súlka) which he had given her, and her relatives shall retake whatever in the shape of gift or dowry they had presented her. Thus the determination of the property of a woman is dealt with.
english translation
zulkam anvAdheyam anyad vA bandhubhir dattaM bAndhavA hareyuH ॥ iti strI dhana kalpaH ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवर्षाण्य् अष्टाव् अप्रजायमानाम् अपुत्रां वन्ध्यां च आकाङ्क्षेत, दश निन्दुम्, द्वादश कन्या प्रसविनीम् ॥
(Re-marriage of Males.) If a woman either brings forth no (live) children, or has no male issue, or is barren, her husband shall wait for eight years, (before marrying another). If she bears only a dead child, he has to wait for ten years. If she brings forth only females, he has to wait for twelve years.
english translation
varSANy aSTAv aprajAyamAnAm aputrAM vandhyAM ca AkAGkSeta, daza nindum, dvAdaza kanyA prasavinIm ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः पुत्र अर्थी द्वितीयां विन्देत ॥
Then if he is desirous to have sons, he may marry another.
english translation
tataH putra arthI dvitIyAM vindeta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य अतिक्रमे शुल्कं स्त्री धनम् अर्धं च आधिवेदनिकं दद्यात्, चतुर् विंशति पण परं च दण्डम् ॥
In case of violating this rule, he shall be made to pay her not only sulka, her property (strídhana) and an adequate monetary compensation (ádhivedanikamartham), but also a fine of 24 panas to the Government.
english translation
tasya atikrame zulkaM strI dhanam ardhaM ca AdhivedanikaM dadyAt, catur viMzati paNa paraM ca daNDam ॥
