दिवसे पञ्च रात्रे वा बन्धनस्थान् विशोधयेत् । कर्मणा काय दण्डेन हिरण्य अनुग्रहेण वा ॥

sanskrit

Once in a day or once in five nights, jails may be emptied of prisoners in consideration of the work they have done, or of whipping inflicted upon them, or of an adequate ransom paid by them in gold.

english translation

divase paJca rAtre vA bandhanasthAn vizodhayet । karmaNA kAya daNDena hiraNya anugraheNa vA ॥
