बाल वृद्ध व्यसन्य् अनाथांश् च राजा बिभृयात्, स्त्रियम् अप्रजातां प्रजातायश् च पुत्रान् ॥
The king shall provide the orphans, (bála), the aged, the infirm, the afflicted, and the helpless with maintenance. He shall also provide subsistence to helpless women when they are carrying and also to the children they give birth to.
english translation
bAla vRddha vyasany anAthAMz ca rAjA bibhRyAt, striyam aprajAtAM prajAtAyaz ca putrAn ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबाल द्रव्यं ग्राम वृद्धा वर्धयेयुर् आ व्यवहार प्रापणात्, देव द्रव्यं च ॥
Elders among the villagers shall improve the property of bereaved minors till the latter attain their age; so also the property of Gods.
english translation
bAla dravyaM grAma vRddhA vardhayeyur A vyavahAra prApaNAt, deva dravyaM ca ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअपत्य दारं माता पितरौ भ्रातृऋन् अप्राप्त व्यवहारान् भगिनीः कन्या विधवाश् च अबिभ्रतः शक्तिमतो द्वादश पणो दण्डः, अन्यत्र पतितेभ्यः, अन्यत्र मातुः ॥
When a capable person other than an apostate (patita) or mother neglects to maintain his or her child, wife, mother, father, minor brothers, sisters, or widowed girls (kanyá vidhaváscha), he or she shall be punished with a fine of twelve panas.
english translation
apatya dAraM mAtA pitarau bhrAtRRn aprApta vyavahArAn bhaginIH kanyA vidhavAz ca abibhrataH zaktimato dvAdaza paNo daNDaH, anyatra patitebhyaH, anyatra mAtuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुत्र दारम् अप्रतिविधाय प्रव्रजतः पूर्वः साहस दण्डः, स्त्रियं च प्रव्राजयतः ॥
When, without making provision for the maintenance of his wife and sons, any person embraces ascetism, he shall be punished with the first amercement; likewise any person who converts a woman to ascetism (pravrájayatah).
english translation
putra dAram apratividhAya pravrajataH pUrvaH sAhasa daNDaH, striyaM ca pravrAjayataH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलुप्त व्यायामः प्रव्रजेद् आपृच्छ्य धर्मस्थान् ॥
Whoever has passed the age of copulation may become an ascetic after distributing the properties of his own acquisition (among his sons).
