Among them, the scalpel, the leaf-shaped instrument, and the knife are used for cutting and scraping. The growth-promoting instrument, the nail-shaped instrument, the weapon-shaped instrument, the ring-shaped instrument, the lotus-leaf-shaped instrument, and the half-moon-shaped instrument are used for cutting and piercing. The needle, the kuśa-leaf-shaped instrument, the mouth-shaped instrument, the arrow-shaped instrument, the mouth-shaped instrument, and the three-pronged instrument are used for bleeding. The axe-shaped instrument, the rice-grain-shaped instrument, the reed-shaped instrument, and the needle are used for puncturing. The hook and the tooth-shaped instrument are used for extracting. The probe is used for probing, for following the course [of a wound or channel], and for sewing. Thus, the use of instruments in eight types of procedures has been explained.
