अथातो यन्त्रविधिमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः ॥१॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptयन्त्रशतमेकोत्तरम्; अत्र हस्तमेव प्रधानतमं यन्त्राणामवगच्छ, (किं कारणं ? यस्माद्धस्तादृते यन्त्राणामप्रवृत्तिरेव) तदधीनत्वाद्यन्त्रकर्मणाम् ॥३॥
"Among various instruments, the hand is the most important. Why? Because, without the hand, there is no way to operate any instrument. Therefore, the functioning of instruments depends on the hand."

yantrazatamekottaram; atra hastameva pradhAnatamaM yantrANAmavagaccha, (kiM kAraNaM ? yasmAddhastAdRte yantrANAmapravRttireva) tadadhInatvAdyantrakarmaNAm ॥3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र, मनःशरीराबाधकराणि शल्यानि; तेषामाहरणोपायो यन्त्राणि ॥४॥
"Instruments that are used for extracting or handling objects that cause harm to the body or mind are termed 'instruments.' These are specifically used for removing harmful elements."

tatra, manaHzarIrAbAdhakarANi zalyAni; teSAmAharaNopAyo yantrANi ॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतानि षट्प्रकाराणि; तद्यथा- स्वस्तिकयन्त्राणि, सन्दंशयन्त्राणि, तालयन्त्राणि, नाडीयन्त्राणि, शलाकायन्त्राणि, उपयन्त्राणि चेति ॥५॥
Those six types are as follows: Svastika instruments, forceps instruments, lattice instruments, tubular instruments, rod instruments, and auxiliary instruments.
