After preparing for the surgical procedure, the physician should: 1. Identify Auspicious Times - Choose appropriate days, auspicious moments, and favorable constellations for the procedure. 2. Perform Rituals - Offer oblations to deities and respect to learned Brahmins and other skilled practitioners. Perform rituals with offerings of sacred substances and chant blessings for success. 3. Prepare the Patient - Seat the patient comfortably and ensure they have had a light meal. 4. Use Proper Instruments - Equip yourself with the necessary surgical tools and ensure they are clean and suitable for the procedure. 5. Position the Patient - Place the patient in the correct position, either facing the direction specified or as appropriate for the procedure. 6. Remove Obstructions - Eliminate any blockages or obstructions, ensuring a clear path for the procedure. 7. Select and Apply Instruments - Choose the correct instrument for the procedure and apply it carefully. If the instrument has been used previously, it should be cleaned and examined for effectiveness. 8. Maintain Proper Measurements - For instruments used in the procedure, adhere to the specified measurements: typically, the surgical tool should be between two to three finger-widths in size. This approach ensures the procedure is carried out in a manner that is both respectful and effective.
