व्याधिमल्पेन कालेन महान्तमपि साधयेत् । वैद्यहीनास्त्रयः पादा गुणवन्तोऽप्यपार्थकाः ॥१७॥
Even a small ailment can be managed effectively by a physician with skill and knowledge. The other three factors (patient, medicine, and nurse) become ineffective if the physician is lacking in competence.

एक छोटे से रोग को भी एक कुशल और जानकार वैद्य द्वारा प्रभावी ढंग से प्रबंधित किया जा सकता है। यदि वैद्य में दक्षता की कमी हो, तो अन्य तीन घटक (रोगी, औषधि, और नर्स) अप्रभावी हो जाते हैं।
