A swelling can be classified into six types based on whether it is caused by deranged Vayu, Pitta, Kapha, or blood, or by the combined action of these. Now I will describe the symptoms based on the type of dosha involved. Vata-type swelling: This type is characterized by a black or reddish color and can be either rough or soft. The pain associated with it is intermittent and may vary from a feeling of stiffness to a sensation of burning. Pitta-type swelling: This swelling appears yellowish, is soft, and fluctuates when pressed. It often presents with burning pain and may be accompanied by the sensation of heat and rapid shifting of the swelling. Kapha-type swelling: This swelling appears pale or white, is firm and cold, and changes its location very slowly, if at all. It is associated with itching and a feeling of heaviness. Sannipata-type swelling: This type shows mixed characteristics of all three doshas and exhibits pain of all kinds. Pitta-blood-type swelling: This swelling is very dark, and the symptoms include reddish discoloration and other Pitta-related signs.
