धनुर् मृगालिकुम्भेषु सम्स्थितो +अर्को न दृश्यते। देवभागे +असुराणाम् तु वृषाद्ये भचतुष्टये।
The sun, when situated in Sagittarius, Capricorn, Scorpio, and Aquarius, is not seen in the hemisphere of the gods ; in that of the demons, on the other hand, when in the four signs commencing with Taurus.
english translation
मेरौ मेषादिचक्रार्धे देवाः पश्यन्ति भास्करम् । सकृद् एवोदितम् तद्वद् असुराश् च तुलादिगम्॥
At Meru, the gods behold the sun, after but a single rising, during the half of his revolution beginning with Aries ; the demons in like manner, during that beginning with Libra.
english translation
भूमण्डलात् पञ्चदशे भागे देवे +अथ वासुरे। उपरिष्टाद् व्रजत्य् अर्कः सौम्ययाम्यायनान्तगः॥
The sun passes directly overhead in the 15th part of the circumference of earth during his northern motion (uttara ayana) in the hemisphere of demigods (devabhaga) and his southern motion (dakshiëayana) in the hemisphere of demons (asurabhaga).
english translation
तदन्तरालयोश् च्छाया याम्योदक् सम्भवत्य् अपि। मेरोर् अभिमुखम् याति परतः स्वविभागयोः॥
Between those limits, the shadow is cast both southward and northward ; beyond them, it falls toward the Meru of either hemisphere respectively.

भद्राश्वोपरिगः कुर्याद् भारते तूदयम् रविः। रात्र्यर्धम् केतुमाले तु कुराव् अस्तमयम् तदा॥
When passing overhead at Bhadracva, the sun is rising in Bharata ; it is moreover, at that time, midnight in Ketumala, and sunset in Kuru.
