अयनान्ते विलोमेन देवासुरविभागयोः। नाडीषष्ट्या सकृद् अहर्निशाप्य् अस्मिन् सकृत् तथा ॥
There occurs once, at the end of the sun's half-revolution from solstice to solstice, a day of sixty nadis, and a night of the same length, mutually opposed to one another, in the two hemispheres of the gods and of the demons.
english translation
तदन्तरे +अपि षष्ट्यन्ते क्षयवृद्धी अहर्निशोः। परतो विपरीतो +अयम् भगोलः परिवर्तते॥
In the intermediate region, the deficiency and excess of day and night are within the limit of sixty nadis ; beyond, this sphere of asterisms {bha) revolves perversely.
english translation
ऊने भूवृत्तपादे तु द्विज्यापक्रमयोजनैः। धनुर् मृगस्थः सविता देवभागे न दृश्यते॥
Subtract from a quarter of the earth's circumference the number of yojanas derived from the declination iound by the sine of two signs : at that distance from the equator the sun is not seen, in the hemisphere of the gods, when in Sagittarius and Capricorn ; . -
english translation
तथा चासुरभागे तु मिथुने कर्कटे स्थितः। नष्टच्छाया महीवृत्तपादे दर्शनम् आदिशेत्॥
- So also, in the hemisphere of the demons, when in Gemini and Cancer : in the quarter of the earth's circumference where her shadow is lost, the sun may be shown to be visible.
english translation
एकज्यापक्रमानीतैर् योजनैः परिवर्जिते । भूमिकक्षाचतुर्थाम्शे व्यक्षाच् छेषैस् तु योजनैः॥
Subtract from the fourth part ol the earth's periphery (kaksha) the number of yojanas derived from the declination found by the sine of one sign : at the distance from the place of no latitude of the remaining number of yojanas.
