परम् ज्योतिस् तमः पारे सूर्यो +अयम् सवितेति च । पर्येति भुवनान् एष भावयन् भूतभावनः॥
This Aniruddha is the brilliant Savita. Overcoming the darkness, the sun spreads its brilliant rays all over the world bringing life into all beings.
english translation
प्रकाशात्मा तमोहन्ता महान् इत्य् एष विश्रुतः। ऋचो +अस्य मण्डलम् सामान्युस्त्रामूर्तिर् यजूम्षि च॥
The sun is known as the natural illuminator, destroyer of darkness and the great one. His disc is the Ågveda, his ray is Sämveda and his form is Yajurveda.
english translation
त्रयीमहो +अयम् भगवाण् कालात्मा कालकृद् विभुः। सर्वात्मा सर्वगः सूक्ष्मः सर्वम् अस्मिन् प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥
Composed of three Vedas, this blessed sun-god is the soul of time (kälätmä), master of time (kälakartä); he is also the soul of universe, all penetrating, subtle and in him the universe is established.
english translation
रथे विश्वमये चक्रम् कृत्वा सम्वत्सरात्मकम् । छन्दाम्स्य् अश्वाः सप्त युक्ताः पर्यटत्य् एष सर्वदा॥
He always traverses the universe, controlling the scriptures (cchanda) with his seven horses, in his chariot whose wheels consist of the entire year.
english translation
त्रिपादम् अमृतम् गुह्यम् पादो +अयम् प्रकटो +अभवत् । सो +अहङ्कारम् जगत्सृष्ट्यै ब्रह्माणम् असृजत् प्रभुः॥
Three quarters of his creative potency are hidden [in the blissful spiritual kingdom]—only the material world is manifest as the fourth quarter. This manifestation has created Brahmä, the supreme creator, as the principle of consciousness (ahankära) for creating the universe.
