विषयतृषो नरपशवो य उपासते विभूतीर्न परं त्वाम् । तेषामाशिष ईश तदनु विनश्यन्ति यथा राजकुलम् ।। ६-१६-३८ ।।

sanskrit

O Lord, O Supreme, unintelligent persons who thirst for sense enjoyment and who worship various demigods are no better than animals in the human form of life. Because of their animalistic propensities, they fail to worship Your Lordship, and instead they worship the insignificant demigods, who are but small sparks of Your glory. With the destruction of the entire universe, including the demigods, the benedictions received from the demigods also vanish, just like the nobility when a king is no longer in power. ।। 6-16-38 ।।

english translation

हे भगवन्, हे परमेश्वर! इन्द्रियतृप्ति के भूखे तथा विभिन्न देवताओं की उपासना करने वाले अज्ञानी पुरुष नर-वेश में पशुओं के समान हैं। वे पाशविक वृत्ति के कारण आपकी उपासना न करके नगण्य देवताओं को, जो आपके यश की लघु चिनगारी के समान हैं, पूजते हैं। समस्त ब्रह्माण्ड के संहार के साथ ये देवता तथा इनसे प्राप्त आशीर्वाद उसी प्रकार विनष्ट हो जाते हैं जिस प्रकार राजा की सत्ता छिन जाने पर राजकीय अधिकारी। ।। ६-१६-३८ ।।
