यस्त्विह वा आढ्याभिमतिरहङ्कृतिस्तिर्यक्प्रेक्षणः सर्वतोऽभिविशङ्की अर्थव्ययनाशचिन्तया परिशुष्यमाणहृदयवदनो निर्वृतिमनवगतो ग्रह इवार्थमभिरक्षति स चापि प्रेत्य तदुत्पादनोत्कर्षण संरक्षणशमलग्रहः सूचीमुखे नरके निपतति यत्र ह वित्तग्रहं पापपुरुषं धर्मराजपुरुषा वायका इव सर्वतोऽङ्गेषु सूत्रैः परिवयन्ति ।। ५-२६-३६ ।।

One who in this world or this life is very proud of his wealth always thinks, “I am so rich. Who can equal me?” His vision is twisted, and he is always afraid that someone will take his wealth. Indeed, he even suspects his superiors. His face and heart dry up at the thought of losing his wealth, and therefore he always looks like a wretched fiend. He is not in any way able to obtain actual happiness, and he does not know what it is to be free from anxiety. Because of the sinful things he does to earn money, augment his wealth and protect it, he is put into the hell called Sūcīmukha, where the officials of Yamarāja punish him by stitching thread through his entire body like weavers manufacturing cloth. ।। 5-26-36 ।।

english translation

जो व्यक्ति इस लोक में अथवा इस जीवन में अपनी सम्पत्ति पर अभिमान करता है, वह सदैव सोचता रहता है कि वह कितना धनी है और कोई उसकी बराबरी कर सकता है क्या? उसकी नजर टेढ़ी हो जाती है और वह सदैव भयभीत रहता है कि कोई उसकी सम्पत्ति ले न ले। वह अपने से बड़े लोगों पर आशंका करता है। अपनी सम्पत्ति की हानि के विचार मात्र से उसका मुख तथा हृदय सूखने लगते हैं, अत: वह सदैव अति अभागे दुष्ट मनुष्य की तरह लगता है। उसे वास्तविक सुख-लाभ नहीं हो पाता और वह यह नहीं जानता कि चिन्तामुक्त जीवन कैसा होता है। धन अर्जित करने, उसको बढ़ाने तथा उसकी रक्षा के लिए वह जो पापकर्म करता है उसके कारण उसे सूचीमुख नामक नरक में रखा जाता है जहाँ यमराज के दूत उसके सारे शरीर को दर्जियों की तरह धागे से सिल देते हैं। ।। ५-२६-३६ ।।
