एवंविधा नरका यमालये सन्ति शतशः सहस्रशस्तेषु सर्वेषु च सर्व एवाधर्मवर्तिनो ये केचिदिहोदिता अनुदिताश्चावनिपते पर्यायेण विशन्ति तथैव धर्मानुवर्तिन इतरत्र इह तु पुनर्भवे त उभयशेषाभ्यां निविशन्ति ।। ५-२६-३७ ।।

My dear King Parīkṣit, in the province of Yamarāja there are hundreds and thousands of hellish planets. The impious people I have mentioned — and also those I have not mentioned — must all enter these various planets according to the degree of their impiety. Those who are pious, however, enter other planetary systems, namely the planets of the demigods. Nevertheless, both the pious and impious are again brought to earth after the results of their pious or impious acts are exhausted. ।। 5-26-37 ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, यमलोक में इसी प्रकार के सैकड़ों-हजारों नरक हैं। मैने जिन पापी मनुष्यों का वर्णन किया है—और जिनका वहाँपर उल्लेख नहीं हुआ—वे सब अपने पापों की कोटि के अनुसार इन विभिन्न नरकों में प्रवेश करेंगे। किन्तु जो पुण्यात्मा हैं, वे अन्य लोकों में, अर्थात् देवताओं के लोकों में जाते हैं। तो भी, अपने पुण्य-पाप के फलों के क्षय होने पर पुण्यात्मा तथा पापी दोनों ही पुन: पृथ्वी पर लौट आते हैं। ।। ५-२६-३७ ।।

evaMvidhA narakA yamAlaye santi zatazaH sahasrazasteSu sarveSu ca sarva evAdharmavartino ye kecidihoditA anuditAzcAvanipate paryAyeNa vizanti tathaiva dharmAnuvartina itaratra iha tu punarbhave ta ubhayazeSAbhyAM nivizanti || 5-26-37 ||
