तथा घृतोदाद्बहिः क्रौञ्चद्वीपो द्विगुणः स्वमानेन क्षीरोदेन परित उपकॢप्तो वृतो यथा कुशद्वीपो घृतोदेन यस्मिन् क्रौञ्चो नाम पर्वतराजो द्वीपनामनिर्वर्तक आस्ते ।। ५-२०-१८ ।।

Outside the ocean of clarified butter is another island, known as Krauñcadvīpa, which has a width of 1,600,000 yojanas [12,800,000 miles], twice the width of the ocean of clarified butter. As Kuśadvīpa is surrounded by an ocean of clarified butter, Krauñcadvīpa is surrounded by an ocean of milk as broad as the island itself. On Krauñcadvīpa there is a great mountain known as Krauñca, from which the island takes its name. ।। 5-20-18 ।।

english translation

घृतसागर के बाहर क्रौंचद्वीप नाम का एक अन्य द्वीप है, जिसकी चौड़ाई घृतसागर से दुगुनी अर्थात् १६,००,००० योजन (१२,८००,००० मील) है। जिस प्रकार कुशद्वीप घृतसागर से घिरा हुआ है उसी प्रकार क्रौंचद्वीप अपने ही समान चौड़ाई वाले दुग्ध-सागर (क्षीरसागर) से घिरा हुआ है। क्रौंचद्वीप में क्रौंच नामक एक विशाल पर्वत है, जिसके कारण इस द्वीप का यह नाम पड़ा। ।। ५-२०-१८ ।।
