ऋषिरुवाच न वै महाराज भगवतो मायागुणविभूतेः काष्ठां मनसा वचसा वाधिगन्तुमलं विबुधायुषापि पुरुषस्तस्मात्प्राधान्येनैव भूगोलकविशेषं नामरूपमानलक्षणतो व्याख्यास्यामः ।। ५-१६-४ ।।

The great ṛṣi Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King, there is no limit to the expansion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead’s material energy. This material world is a transformation of the material qualities [sattva-guṇa, rajo-guṇa and tamo-guṇa], yet no one could possibly explain it perfectly, even in a lifetime as long as that of Brahmā. No one in the material world is perfect, and an imperfect person could not describe this material universe accurately, even after continued speculation. O King, I shall nevertheless try to explain to you the principal regions, such as Bhūloka, with their names, forms, measurements and various symptoms. ।। 5-16-4 ।।

english translation

ऋषिश्रेष्ठ शुकदेव गोस्वामी बोले, हे राजन्, श्रीभगवान् की माया के विस्तार की कोई सीमा नहीं है। यह भौतिक जगत सत्त्व, रज तथा तम् इन तीन गुणों का रूपान्तर है; फिर भी ब्रह्मा के समान दीर्घ आयु पाकर भी इसकी व्याख्या कर पाना सम्भव नहीं है। इस भौतिक जगत में कोई भी पूर्ण नहीं और अपूर्ण मनुष्य सतत चिन्तन के बाद भी इस भौतिक ब्रह्माण्ड का सही वर्णन नहीं कर सका। तो भी, हे राजन्, मैं भूगोलक (भूलोक) जैसे प्रमुख भूखण्डों की उनके नामों, रूपों, प्रमापों तथा विविध लक्षणों सहित व्याख्या करने का प्रयत्न करूँगा। ।। ५-१६-४ ।।
