क्वचिच्च शीतातपवातवर्षप्रतिक्रियां कर्तुमनीश आस्ते । क्वचिन्मिथो विपणन् यच्च किञ्चिद्विद्वेषमृच्छत्युत वित्तशाठ्यात् ।। ५-१३-११ ।।

Sometimes the living entity is busy counteracting the natural disturbances of freezing cold, scorching heat, strong wind, excessive rainfall and so forth. When he is unable to do so, he becomes very unhappy. Sometimes he is cheated in business transactions one after another. In this way, by cheating, living entities create enmity among themselves. ।। 5-13-11 ।।

english translation

कभी-कभी जीवात्मा बर्फीली ठंड, कड़ी गर्मी, तेज हवा, अति-वृष्टि इत्यादि प्राकृतिक उत्पातों का सामना करने में लगा रहता है। किन्तु जब वह ऐसा नहीं कर पाता तो अत्यन्त दुखी हो जाता है। कभी-कभी वह एक के बाद एक व्यावसायिक लेन-देन में ठगा जाता है। इस प्रकार ठगे जाने पर जीवात्माएँ एक दूसरे से शत्रुता ठान लेती हैं। ।। ५-१३-११ ।।

क्वचित्क्वचित्क्षीणधनस्तु तस्मिन् शय्यासनस्थानविहारहीनः । याचन् परादप्रतिलब्धकामः पारक्यदृष्टिर्लभतेऽवमानम् ।। ५-१३-१२ ।।

On the forest path of material existence, sometimes a person is without wealth and due to this does not have a proper home, bed or sitting place, nor proper family enjoyment. He therefore goes to beg money from others, but when his desires are not fulfilled by begging, he wants to borrow or steal the property of others. Thus he is insulted in society. ।। 5-13-12 ।।

english translation

संसार के जंगली मार्ग में कभी-कभी व्यक्ति धनहीन हो जाता है, जिसके कारण उसके पास न समुचित घर न बिस्तर या बैठने का स्थान होता है, न ही समुचित पारिवारिक सुख ही उपलब्ध हो पाता है। अत: वह अन्यों से धन माँगता है, किन्तु जब माँगने पर भी उसकी इच्छाएँ अपूर्ण रहती हैं, तो वह या तो उधार लेना चाहता है या फिर अन्यों की सम्पत्ति चुराना चाहता है। इस तरह वह समाज में अपमानित होता है। ।। ५-१३-१२ ।।

अन्योन्यवित्तव्यतिषङ्गवृद्धवैरानुबन्धो विवहन् मिथश्च । अध्वन्यमुष्मिन्नुरुकृच्छ्रवित्तबाधोपसर्गैर्विहरन् विपन्नः ।। ५-१३-१३ ।।

Due to monetary transactions, relationships become very strained and end in enmity. Sometimes the husband and wife walk on the path of material progress, and to maintain their relationship they work very hard. Sometimes due to scarcity of money or due to diseased conditions, they are embarrassed and almost die. ।। 5-13-13 ।।

english translation

आर्थिक लेने-देन के कारण सम्बन्धों में कटुता उत्पन्न होती है, जिसका अन्त शत्रुता में होता है। कभी पति-पत्नी भौतिक उन्नति के मार्ग पर अग्रसर होते हैं और अपने सम्बन्ध बनाये रखने के लिए वे कठोर श्रम करते हैं, तो कभी धनाभाव अथवा रुग्ण दशा के कारण वे अत्यधिक चिन्तित रहकर मरणासन्न हो जाते हैं। ।। ५-१३-१३ ।।

तांस्तान् विपन्नान् स हि तत्र तत्र विहाय जातं परिगृह्य सार्थः । आवर्ततेऽद्यापि न कश्चिदत्र वीराध्वनः पारमुपैति योगम् ।। ५-१३-१४ ।।

My dear King, on the forest path of material life, first a person is bereft of his father and mother, and after their death he becomes attached to his newly born children. In this way he wanders on the path of material progress and is eventually embarrassed. Nonetheless, no one knows how to get out of this, even up to the moment of death. ।। 5-13-14 ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, भौतिक जीवन रूपी जंगल के मार्ग में मनुष्य पहले अपने पिता तथा माता को खोता है और उनकी मृत्यु के बाद वह नवजात बच्चों से आसक्त हो जाता है। इस तरह वह भौतिक प्रगति के मार्ग में घूमता रहता है और अन्त में अत्यन्त व्यथित हो जाता है। किसी को मृत्यु के क्षण तक यह पता नहीं चल पाता कि वह उससे किस प्रकार निकले। ।। ५-१३-१४ ।।

मनस्विनो निर्जितदिग्गजेन्द्रा ममेति सर्वे भुवि बद्धवैराः । मृधे शयीरन् न तु तद्व्रजन्ति यन्न्यस्तदण्डो गतवैरोऽभियाति ।। ५-१३-१५ ।।

There were and are many political and social heroes who have conquered enemies of equal power, yet due to their ignorance in believing that the land is theirs, they fight one another and lay down their lives in battle. They are not able to take up the spiritual path accepted by those in the renounced order. Although they are big heroes and political leaders, they cannot take to the path of spiritual realization. ।। 5-13-15 ।।

english translation

ऐसे अनेक राजनैतिक तथा सामाजिक वीर पुरुष हैं और थे जिन्होंने सम-शक्ति वाले शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त की है, तो भी वे अज्ञानवश यह विश्वास करके कि यह भूमि उनकी है परस्पर लड़ते हैं और युद्धभूमि में अपने प्राण गँवाते हैं। वे सन्यासियों के द्वारा स्वीकृत आध्यात्मिक पथ को ग्रहण कर सकने में अक्षम रहते हैं। वीर पुरुष तथा राजनैतिक नेता होते हुए भी वे आत्म- साक्षात्कार का पथ नहीं अपना सकते हैं। ।। ५-१३-१५ ।।

manasvino nirjitadiggajendrA mameti sarve bhuvi baddhavairAH | mRdhe zayIran na tu tadvrajanti yannyastadaNDo gatavairo'bhiyAti || 5-13-15 ||
