राजोवाच ब्रह्मणा चोदितो ब्रह्मन् गुणाख्यानेऽगुणस्य च । यस्मै यस्मै यथा प्राह नारदो देवदर्शनः ॥ २-८-१ ॥
King Parīkṣit inquired from Śukadeva Gosvāmī: How did Nārada Muni, whose hearers are as fortunate as those instructed by Lord Brahmā, explain the transcendental qualities of the Lord, who is without material qualities, and before whom did he speak? ॥ 2-8-1 ॥

राजा परीक्षित ने शुकदेव गोस्वामी से पूछा कि नारद मुनि ने, जिनके श्रोता श्रीब्रह्मा द्वारा उपदेशित भाग्यशाली श्रोता हैं, किस प्रकार निर्गुण भगवान् के दिव्य गुणों का वर्णन किया और वे किन-किन के समक्ष बोले? ॥ २-८-१ ॥

एतद्वेदितुमिच्छामि तत्त्वं वेदविदां वर । हरेरद्भुतवीर्यस्य कथा लोकसुमङ्गलाः ॥ २-८-२ ॥
The King said: I wish to know. Narrations concerning the Lord, who possesses wonderful potencies, are certainly auspicious for living beings in all planets. ॥ 2-8-2 ॥

राजा ने कहा : मैं जानने का इच्छुक हूँ। अद्भुत शक्तियों से सम्पन्न भगवान् से सम्बन्धित कथाएँ निश्चय ही समस्त लोकों के प्राणियों के लिए शुभ हैं। ॥ २-८-२ ॥

कथयस्व महाभाग यथाहमखिलात्मनि । कृष्णे निवेश्य निःसङ्गं मनस्त्यक्ष्ये कलेवरम् ॥ २-८-३ ॥
O greatly fortunate Śukadeva Gosvāmī, please continue narrating Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam so that I can place my mind upon the Supreme Soul, Lord Kṛṣṇa, and, being completely freed from material qualities, thus relinquish this body. ॥ 2-8-3 ॥

हे परम भाग्यशाली शुकदेव गोस्वामी, आप मुझे कृपा करके श्रीमद्भागवत सुनाते रहें जिससे मैं अपना मन परमात्मा, भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण में स्थिर कर सकूँ और इस प्रकार भौतिक गुणों से सर्वथा मुक्त होकर अपना यह शरीर त्याग सकूँ।

शृण्वतः श्रद्धया नित्यं गृणतश्च स्वचेष्टितम् । कालेन नातिदीर्घेण भगवान् विशते हृदि ॥ २-८-४ ॥
Persons who hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly and are always taking the matter very seriously will have the Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa manifested in their hearts within a short time. ॥ 2-8-4 ॥

जो लोग नियमित रूप से श्रीमद्भागवत सुनते हैं और इसे अत्यन्त गम्भीरतापूर्वक ग्रहण करते हैं, उनके हृदय में अल्प समय में ही भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण प्रकट हो जाते हैं। ॥ २-८-४ ॥

प्रविष्टः कर्णरन्ध्रेण स्वानां भावसरोरुहम् । धुनोति शमलं कृष्णः सलिलस्य यथा शरत् ॥ २-८-५ ॥
The sound incarnation of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Soul [i.e., Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam], enters into the heart of a self-realized devotee, sits on the lotus flower of his loving relationship, and thus cleanses the dust of material association, such as lust, anger and hankering. Thus it acts like autumnal rains upon pools of muddy water. ॥ 2-8-5 ॥

परमात्मा रूप भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण का शब्दावतार (अर्थात् श्रीमद्भागवत) स्वरूप-सिद्ध भक्त के हृदय में प्रवेश करता है, उसके भावात्मक सम्बन्ध रूपी कमल-पुष्प पर आसीन हो जाता है और इस प्रकार काम, क्रोध तथा लोभ जैसी भौतिक संगति की धूल को धो ड़ालता है। इस प्रकार यह गँदले जल के तालाबों में शरद ऋतु की वर्षा के समान कार्य करता है। ॥ २-८-५ ॥
