सर्गे तपोऽहमृषयो नव ये प्रजेशाः स्थाने च धर्ममखमन्वमरावनीशाः । अन्ते त्वधर्महरमन्युवशासुराद्या मायाविभूतय इमाः पुरुशक्तिभाजः ।। २-७-३९ ।।

At the beginning of creation there are penance, myself [Brahmā] and the Prajāpatis, the great sages who generate; then, during the maintenance of the creation, there are Lord Viṣṇu, the demigods with controlling powers, and the kings of different planets. But at the end there is irreligion, and then Lord Śiva and the atheists full of anger, etc. All of them are different representative manifestations of the energy of the supreme power, the Lord. ।। 2-7-39 ।।
english translation
सृष्टि के प्रारम्भ में तपस्या, मैं (ब्रह्मा) तथा जन्म देने वाले ऋषि प्रजापति रहते हैं; फिर सृष्टि के पालन के अवसर पर भगवान् विष्णु, नियामक देवता तथा विभिन्न लोकों के राजा रहते हैं। किन्तु अन्त काल में अधर्म बचा रहता है और रहते हैं शिव तथा क्रोधी नास्तिक इत्यादि। ये सब के सब परम शक्ति रूप भगवान् की शक्ति के विभिन्न प्रतिनिधियों के रूप में रहते हैं। ।। २-७-३९ ।।
