सूत उवाच नमो धर्माय महते नमः कृष्णाय वेधसे । ब्राह्मणेभ्यो नमस्कृत्य धर्मान् वक्ष्ये सनातनान् ॥ १२-१२-१ ॥
Sūta Gosvāmī said: Offering my obeisances to the supreme religious principle, devotional service; to Lord Kṛṣṇa, the supreme creator; and to all the brāhmaṇas, I shall now describe the eternal principles of religion. ॥ 12-12-1 ॥

सूत गोस्वामी ने कहा: सर्वोच्च धार्मिक सिद्धांत, भक्ति सेवा को मेरा प्रणाम; सर्वोच्च निर्माता, भगवान कृष्ण को; और अब मैं सभी ब्राह्मणों को धर्म के शाश्वत सिद्धांतों का वर्णन करूंगा। ॥ १२-१२-१ ॥

एतद्वः कथितं विप्रा विष्णोश्चरितमद्भुतम् । भवद्भिर्यदहं पृष्टो नराणां पुरुषोचितम् ॥ १२-१२-२ ॥
O great sages, I have narrated to you the wonderful pastimes of Lord Viṣṇu, as you inquired about them from me. Hearing such narrations is the suitable engagement for a person who is actually a human being. ॥ 12-12-2 ॥

हे महान ऋषियों, मैंने आपको भगवान विष्णु की अद्भुत लीलाओं का वर्णन किया है, जैसा कि आपने मुझसे उनके बारे में पूछा था। ऐसी कथाएँ सुनना उस व्यक्ति के लिए उपयुक्त कार्य है जो वास्तव में मनुष्य है। ॥ १२-१२-२ ॥

अत्र सङ्कीर्तितः साक्षात्सर्वपापहरो हरिः । नारायणो हृषीकेशो भगवान् सात्वतां पतिः ॥ १२-१२-३ ॥
This literature fully glorifies the Supreme Personality of Godhead Hari, who removes all His devotees’ sinful reactions. The Lord is glorified as Nārāyaṇa, Hṛṣīkeśa and the Lord of the Sātvatas. ॥ 12-12-3 ॥

यह साहित्य पूरी तरह से भगवान हरि के सर्वोच्च व्यक्तित्व की महिमा करता है, जो अपने सभी भक्तों के पापों को दूर कर देते हैं। भगवान को नारायण, हृषिकेश और सात्वतों के भगवान के रूप में महिमामंडित किया जाता है। ॥ १२-१२-३ ॥

अत्र ब्रह्म परं गुह्यं जगतः प्रभवाप्ययम् । ज्ञानं च तदुपाख्यानं प्रोक्तं विज्ञानसंयुतम् ॥ १२-१२-४ ॥
This literature describes the mystery of the Supreme Absolute Truth, the source of the creation and annihilation of this universe. Also presented are divine knowledge of Him together with the process of its cultivation, and the transcendental realization one achieves. ॥ 12-12-4 ॥

यह साहित्य इस ब्रह्मांड के निर्माण और विनाश के स्रोत, सर्वोच्च परम सत्य के रहस्य का वर्णन करता है। उसके बारे में दिव्य ज्ञान के साथ-साथ उसकी साधना की प्रक्रिया तथा व्यक्ति द्वारा प्राप्त दिव्य अनुभूति भी प्रस्तुत की गई है। ॥ १२-१२-४ ॥

The following topics are also narrated: the process of devotional service together with its subsidiary feature of renunciation, and the histories of Mahārāja Parīkṣit and the sage Nārada. ॥ 12-12-5 ॥
