भावयत्येषसत्त्वेन लोकान्वैलोकभावनः । लीलावतारानुरतो देवतिर्यङ्नरादिषु ।। १-२-३४ ।।

Thus the Lord of the universes maintains all planets inhabited by demigods, men and lower animals. Assuming the roles of incarnations, He performs pastimes to reclaim those in the mode of pure goodness. ।। 1-2-34 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार सारे ब्राह्माण्डों के स्वामी देवताओं, मनुष्यों तथा निम्न पशुओं से आवासित सारे ग्रहों का पालन-पोषण करने वाले हैं। वे अवतरित होकर शुद्ध सत्त्वगुण में रहने वालों के उद्धार हेतु लीलाएँ करते हैं। ।। १-२-३४ ।।
