स्रोतोभिः सप्तभिर्या वै स्वर्धुनी सप्तधा व्यधात् । सप्तानां प्रीतये नाना सप्तस्रोतः प्रचक्षते ॥ १-१३-५१ ॥
The place is called Saptasrota [“divided by seven”] because there the waters of the sacred Ganges were divided into seven branches. This was done for the satisfaction of the seven great ṛṣis. ॥ 1-13-51 ॥
english translation
यह स्थान सप्तस्रोत (सात द्वारा विभाजित) कहलाता है, क्योंकि यहाँ पर पवित्र गंगा नदी का जल सात शाखाओं में विभाजित किया गया था। ऐसा महान् सप्तर्षियों की तुष्टि के लिए किया गया था। ॥ १-१३-५१ ॥
