पतिं प्रयान्तं सुबलस्य पुत्री पतिव्रता चानुजगाम साध्वी । हिमालयं न्यस्तदण्डप्रहर्षं मनस्विनामिव सत्सम्प्रहारः ।। १-१३-२९ ।।

sanskrit

The gentle and chaste Gāndhārī, who was the daughter of King Subala of Kandahar [or Gāndhāra], followed her husband, seeing that he was going to the Himālaya Mountains, which are the delight of those who have accepted the staff of the renounced order like fighters who have accepted a good lashing from the enemy. ।। 1-13-29 ।।

english translation

कन्दहार (गान्धार) के राजा सुबल की पुत्री, परम साध्वी गान्धारी ने जब यह देखा कि उसके पति हिमालय पर्वत की ओर जा रहे हैं, जो कि संन्यासियों को वैसा ही आनन्द देता है जैसा कि युद्ध के मैदान में योद्धा को शत्रुओं के प्रहार से प्राप्त होता है, तो वह भी अपने पति के पीछे-पीछे चल पड़ीं। ।। १-१३-२९ ।।

patiM prayAntaM subalasya putrI pativratA cAnujagAma sAdhvI | himAlayaM nyastadaNDapraharSaM manasvinAmiva satsamprahAraH || 1-13-29 ||
