मुनय ऊचुः कालादुत्पद्यते सर्वं कालदेव विपद्यते ॥ न कालनिरपेक्षं हि क्वचित्किंचन विद्यते ॥ १ ॥।
The sages said:— Every thing originates from Kāla and is annihilated through Kāla. There is nothing independent of Kāla anywhere.
english translation
यदास्यांतर्गतं विश्वं शश्वत्संसारमण्डलम् ॥ सर्गसंहृतिमुद्राभ्यां चक्रवत्परिवर्तते ॥ २ ॥
The whole universe caught in its mouth whirls like a wheel through the activities of creation and annihilation.

ब्रह्मा हरिश्च रुद्रश्च तथान्ये च सुरासुराः ॥ यत्कृतां नियतिं प्राप्य प्रभवो नातिवर्तितुम् ॥ ३ ॥
By his control, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rudra, gods and Asuras cannot transgress the laws of propriety.

भूतभव्यभविष्याद्यैर्विभज्य जरयन् प्रजाः ॥ अतिप्रभुरिति स्वैरं वर्तते ऽतिभयंकरः ॥ ४ ॥
It classifies itself in the factors of past, present and future and makes people grow old. Thus freely lording over all it is extremely terrible.

क एष भगवान् कालः कस्य वा वशवर्त्ययम् ॥ क एवास्य वशे न स्यात्कथयैतद्विचक्षण ॥ ५ ॥
O skilful one, please tell us. Who is this lord Kāla? Under whose control is he? Who does not come under his control?
