उपमन्युरुवाच ॥ त्वयैवं कथितं सर्वं भवनिंदारतेन वै ॥ प्रसंगादेव देवस्य निर्गुणत्वं महात्मनः ॥ २१ ॥

sanskrit

Upamanyu said:— You have said all these things in your eagerness to disparage Śiva. In that context you have mentioned the Nirguṇatva of the great lord.

upamanyuruvAca ॥ tvayaivaM kathitaM sarvaM bhavaniMdAratena vai ॥ prasaMgAdeva devasya nirguNatvaM mahAtmanaH ॥ 21 ॥

त्वं न जानामि वै रुद्रं सर्वदेवेश्वरेश्वरम् ॥ ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेशानां जनक प्रकृतेः परम् ॥ २२ ॥

sanskrit

You do not know Rudra the lord of the chiefs of the gods, the progenitor of Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Śiva and who is greater than Prakṛti.

tvaM na jAnAmi vai rudraM sarvadevezvarezvaram ॥ brahmaviSNumahezAnAM janaka prakRteH param ॥ 22 ॥

सदसद्व्यक्तमव्यक्तं यमाहुर्ब्रह्मवादिनः ॥ नित्यमेकमनेकं च वरं तस्माद्वृणोम्यहम् ॥ २३ ॥

sanskrit

I desire to get my boon granted by the lord who is separate from Sat and Asar, who is the unmanifest, as mentioned by the propounders of Brahman and who is eternal, single and multifarious.

sadasadvyaktamavyaktaM yamAhurbrahmavAdinaH ॥ nityamekamanekaM ca varaM tasmAdvRNomyaham ॥ 23 ॥

हेतुवादविनिर्मुक्तं सांख्ययोगार्थदम्परम् ॥ उपासते यं तत्त्वज्ञा वरं तस्माद्वृणोम्यहम् ॥ २४ ॥

I desire to secure the boon from that lord whom the knowers of truth meditate upon, who bestows the goal of Sāṃkhya and Yoga, viz. release.

hetuvAdavinirmuktaM sAMkhyayogArthadamparam ॥ upAsate yaM tattvajJA varaM tasmAdvRNomyaham ॥ 24 ॥

नास्ति शंभोः परं तत्त्वं सर्वकारणकारणात् ॥ ब्रह्मविष्ण्वादिदेवानां स्रष्टुर्गुणपराद्विभोः ॥ २५ ॥

There is no higher truth than Śiva who is the cause of all causes, the creator of Brahmā, Viṣṇu and other gods and who is the lord beyond attributes.

nAsti zaMbhoH paraM tattvaM sarvakAraNakAraNAt ॥ brahmaviSNvAdidevAnAM sraSTurguNaparAdvibhoH ॥ 25 ॥
