ऋषय ऊचुः ॥ अन्तर्धानगतो देव्या सह सानुचरो हरः ॥ क्व यातः कुत्र वासः किं कृत्वा विरराम ह ॥ १ ॥
The sages said:— Where did Śiva who vanished along with the goddess and his attendants go? Where did he stay? What did he do and not do?
english translation
RSaya UcuH ॥ antardhAnagato devyA saha sAnucaro haraH ॥ kva yAtaH kutra vAsaH kiM kRtvA virarAma ha ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवायुरुवाच ॥ महीधरवरः श्रीमान्मंदरश्चित्रकंदरः ॥ दयितो देवदेवस्य निवासस्तपसो ऽभवत् ॥ २ ॥
Vāyu said:— The excellent mountain Mandara with different caves became the pleasing spot of penance for lord Śiva.
english translation
vAyuruvAca ॥ mahIdharavaraH zrImAnmaMdarazcitrakaMdaraH ॥ dayito devadevasya nivAsastapaso 'bhavat ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतपो महत्कृतं तेन वोढुं स्वशिरसा शिवौ ॥ चिरेण लब्धं तत्पादपंकजस्पर्शजं सुखम् ॥ ३ ॥
He had performed a great penance for the previlege to support Śiva and Śivā on his head. After a long time he felt the pleasure of contact with their lotus like feet.
english translation
tapo mahatkRtaM tena voDhuM svazirasA zivau ॥ cireNa labdhaM tatpAdapaMkajasparzajaM sukham ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य शैलस्य सौन्दर्यं सहस्रवदनैरपि ॥ न शक्यं विस्तराद्वक्तुं वर्षकोटिशतैरपि ॥ ४ ॥
The beauty of the mountain cannot be mentioned in detail by persons with thousand faces even in hundreds of crores of years.
english translation
tasya zailasya saundaryaM sahasravadanairapi ॥ na zakyaM vistarAdvaktuM varSakoTizatairapi ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशक्यमप्यस्य सौन्दर्यं न वर्णयितुमुत्सहे ॥ पर्वतान्तरसौन्दर्यं साधारणविधारणात् ॥ ५ ॥
Even if it is possible to describe I do not attempt to describe its beauty lest it should stand comparison with the other beautiful mountains.
english translation
zakyamapyasya saundaryaM na varNayitumutsahe ॥ parvatAntarasaundaryaM sAdhAraNavidhAraNAt ॥ 5 ॥
