अन्नाभिलाषान्दीनान्वा बालवृद्धकृशातुरान् ।। नानुकंपंति ये मूढास्ते यांति नरकार्णवम् ।। ३६ ।।

sanskrit

or the poor, the young, the old, the emaciated and the sick, who are thirsty for food. Those fools who do not show compassion go to the ocean of hell.

english translation

annAbhilASAndInAnvA bAlavRddhakRzAturAn || nAnukaMpaMti ye mUDhAste yAMti narakArNavam || 36 ||

गृहेष्वर्था निवर्तन्ते स्मशानादपि बांधवाः ।। सुकृतं दुष्कृतं चैव गच्छंतमनुगच्छति ।। ३७ ।।

sanskrit

The assets of a man take leave of him at the house itself as the kinsmen do at the cremation ground but his merits and sins follow wherever he goes.

english translation

gRheSvarthA nivartante smazAnAdapi bAMdhavAH || sukRtaM duSkRtaM caiva gacchaMtamanugacchati || 37 ||

अजाविको माहिषिकस्सामुद्रो वृषलीपतिः ।। शूद्रवत्क्षत्रवृत्तिश्च नारकी स्याद् द्विजाधमः ।। ३८ ।।

sanskrit

The base brahmin who rears goats, sheep and buffaloes and who marries a Śūdra woman and who lives on fishing etc. is a Śudra. If he follows the occupation of a Kṣattriya he is sure to go to hell.

english translation

ajAviko mAhiSikassAmudro vRSalIpatiH || zUdravatkSatravRttizca nArakI syAd dvijAdhamaH || 38 ||

शिल्पिनः कारवो वैद्या हेमकारा नृपध्वजाः ।। भृतका कूटसंयुक्ताः सर्वे ते नारकाः स्मृताः ।। ३९ ।।

Sculptors, blacksmiths, physicians, goldsmiths and royal pretenders and deceitful servants are sure to go to hell.

zilpinaH kAravo vaidyA hemakArA nRpadhvajAH || bhRtakA kUTasaMyuktAH sarve te nArakAH smRtAH || 39 ||

यश्चोचितमतिक्रम्य स्वेच्छयै वाहरेत्करम् ।। नरके पच्यते सोऽपि योपि दण्डरुचिर्नरः ।। ४० ।।

The king who imposes improper taxes out of his own will and takes undue delight in punishment is tortured in hell.

english translation

yazcocitamatikramya svecchayai vAharetkaram || narake pacyate so'pi yopi daNDarucirnaraH || 40 ||
