एतच्च श्रोतुमिच्छामि पितॄणां सर्गमुत्तमम् ॥ कथय त्वं विशेषेण कृपां कुरु महामते ॥ ६॥
I wish to hear this too, namely the creation par excellence of the manes (pitṛ). O intelligent one, please mention this particularly. Have mercy on me.
english translation
etacca zrotumicchAmi pitRRNAM sargamuttamam ॥ kathaya tvaM vizeSeNa kRpAM kuru mahAmate ॥ 6॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसूत उवाच ॥ वच्मि तत्तेऽखिलं प्रीत्या पितृसर्गं तु शौनक ॥ मार्कण्डेयेन कथितं भीष्माय परिपृच्छते ॥ ७ ॥
Suta said:- O Śaunaka I shall tell you with great pleasure the whole creation of the forefathers He asks Bhishma what Markandeya had told him.
english translation
sUta uvAca ॥ vacmi tatte'khilaM prItyA pitRsargaM tu zaunaka ॥ mArkaNDeyena kathitaM bhISmAya paripRcchate ॥ 7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगीतं सनत्कुमारेण मार्कण्डेय धीमते ॥ तत्तेऽहं संप्रवक्ष्यामि सर्वकामफलपदम् ॥ ८ ॥
Sung by Sanatkumara, O wise Markandeya. That is the path of the fruits of all desires I shall now describe to you.

gItaM sanatkumAreNa mArkaNDeya dhImate ॥ tatte'haM saMpravakSyAmi sarvakAmaphalapadam ॥ 8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयुधिष्ठिरेण संपृष्टो भीष्मो धर्मभृतां वरः॥ शरशय्यास्थितः प्रोचे तच्छृणुष्व वदामि ते ॥ ९॥
Bhishma the foremost among the upholders of righteousness was inquired by Yudhisthira Standing on the bed of the arrows he spoke to me Listen to what I shall tell you.

yudhiSThireNa saMpRSTo bhISmo dharmabhRtAM varaH॥ zarazayyAsthitaH proce tacchRNuSva vadAmi te ॥ 9॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयुधिष्ठिर उवाच ॥ पुष्टिकामेन पुंसां वै कथं पुष्टिरवाप्यते ॥ एतच्छ्रोतुं समिच्छामि किं कुर्वाणो न सीदति ॥ १० ॥
Yudhiṣṭhira said:— How is nourishment achieved by a man desirous of nourishment? I wish to hear this. What is it that makes a man free from distress?
english translation
yudhiSThira uvAca ॥ puSTikAmena puMsAM vai kathaM puSTiravApyate ॥ etacchrotuM samicchAmi kiM kurvANo na sIdati ॥ 10 ॥
