छायां संतर्जयामास यदा वैवस्वतो यमः ॥ तं शशाप ततः क्रोधाच्छाया तु कलुषीकृता ॥ १६ ॥
When Yama, son of Vivasvat threatened Chāyā she became infuriated and cursed him angrily.
english translation
चरणः पततामेष तवेति भृशरोषितः ॥ यमस्ततः पितुस्सर्वं प्रांजलिः प्रत्यवेदयत् ॥ १७ ॥
Due to excessive anger she cursed—“Let your leg fall off”. Yama approached his father with palms joined in reverence and said.

भृशं शाप भयोद्विग्नस्संज्ञावाक्यैर्विचेष्टितः ॥ मात्रा स्नेहेन सर्वेषु वर्तितव्यं सुतेषु वै ॥ १८॥
He was severely cursed and frightened and moved about with words of consciousness A mother should treat all her children with affection.
english translation
स्नेहमस्मास्वपाकृत्य कनीयांसं बिभर्ति सा॥ तस्मान्मयोद्यतः पादस्तद्भवान् क्षंतुमर्हति ॥ १९॥
She is carrying the younger one by taking away our affection Therefore you should forgive me for the step I have taken.

शप्तोहमस्मि देवेश जनन्या तपतांवर ॥ तव प्रसादाच्चरणो न पतेन्मम गोपते ॥ २० ॥
O lord of the gods I am cursed by my mother O best of the ascetics By your grace my feet will not fall, O cowherd man.
