एवं पक्षौ स्थितौ द्वौ तु समासात्सुरसुंदरि ॥ शुचिर्भूत्वा स्मरन्देवं सुस्नातस्संयतेन्द्रियः ॥ ३१ ॥
O beautiful goddess, in brief there are two fortnights. In these one shall take bath and be clear, remember the lord with controlled senses.

हस्तौ प्रक्षाल्य दुग्धेनालक्तकेन विमर्दयेत् ॥ गंधैः पुष्पैः करौ कृत्वा मृगयेच्च शुभाशुभम् ॥ ३२॥
He shall wash his hands with red lac juice and milk. He shall hold scents and fragrant flowers in the hands and try to forestall his good or bad luck.

कनिष्ठामादितः कृत्वा यावदंगुष्ठकं प्रिये ॥ पर्वत्रयक्रमेणैव हस्तयोरुभयोरपि ॥ ३३॥
Start with the youngest and reach to the thumb, dear. In the order of the three mountains on both hands.

प्रतिपदादिविन्यस्य तिथिं प्रतिपदादितः ॥ संपुटाकारहस्तौ तु पूर्वदिङ्मुखसंस्थितः ॥ ३४ ॥
The date is arranged from the Pratipada to the Pratipada. He stood facing east with his hands in the shape of a wrapper.

स्मरेन्नवात्मकं मंत्रं यावदष्टोत्तरं शतम् ॥ निरीक्षयेत्ततो हस्तौ प्रतिपर्वणि यत्नतः ॥ ३५ ॥
The devotee then should repeat the Navātmaka mantra one hundred and eight times. Then he shall scrutinise every one of the knots in the fingers of both the hands.
