बाल्ये दुःखमतीत्यैव पश्यन्नपि विमूढधीः।। न कुर्वीतात्मनः श्रेयस्तदत्र महदद्भुतम् ।। ५१ ।।

sanskrit

In his childhood he was confused even though he saw that he had passed through suffering He should not do his own good that is a great wonder here.

english translation

bAlye duHkhamatItyaiva pazyannapi vimUDhadhIH|| na kurvItAtmanaH zreyastadatra mahadadbhutam || 51 ||

प्रवृत्तेन्द्रियवृत्तित्वात्कामरोगप्रपीडनात्।। तदप्राप्ते तु सततं कुतस्सौख्यं तु यौवने ।। ५२ ।।

sanskrit

Because of the involvement of the senses and the oppression of lust and disease. Where is the happiness in youth when you have not always achieved that?

english translation

pravRttendriyavRttitvAtkAmarogaprapIDanAt|| tadaprApte tu satataM kutassaukhyaM tu yauvane || 52 ||

ईर्ष्यया च महद्दुःखं मोहाद्रक्तस्य तस्य च ।। नेत्रस्य कुपितस्येव त्यागी दुःखाय केवलम् ।। ५३ ।।

sanskrit

Then, he feels misery from malice and rivalry. By delusion his eyes become red like those of an infuriated man. Its abandonment is only conducive to misery.

IrSyayA ca mahadduHkhaM mohAdraktasya tasya ca || netrasya kupitasyeva tyAgI duHkhAya kevalam || 53 ||

न रात्रौ विंदते निद्रां कामाग्निपरिवेदितः ।। दिवापि च कुतस्सौख्यमर्थोपार्जनचिंतया ।। ५४ ।।

During nights he does not get proper sleep because he is scorched by the fire of lust. Where is pleasure even during the day because he is worried over the ways and means of earning wealth?

na rAtrau viMdate nidrAM kAmAgnipariveditaH || divApi ca kutassaukhyamarthopArjanaciMtayA || 54 ||

स्त्रीष्वध्यासितचित्तस्य ये पुंसः शुक्रबिन्दवः ।। ते सुखाय न मन्यन्ते स्वेदजा इव ते तथा ।। ५५ ।।

The drops of semen of a man whose mind is dwelling on women do not bring him pleasure. They are like his own sweat drops, mere dirt.

english translation

strISvadhyAsitacittasya ye puMsaH zukrabindavaH || te sukhAya na manyante svedajA iva te tathA || 55 ||
