रक्तो मूढश्च लोकोऽयं न कार्य्ये सम्प्रवर्तते ॥ न चात्मानं विजानाति न परं न च दैवतम् ॥ ४१ ॥
The passionate and deluded world does not engage in activities beneficial to itself. It does not realise itself nor others nor even the deity.
english translation
rakto mUDhazca loko'yaM na kAryye sampravartate ॥ na cAtmAnaM vijAnAti na paraM na ca daivatam ॥ 41 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन शृणोति परं श्रेयस्सति कर्णेऽपि सन्मुने ॥ न पश्यति परं श्रेयस्सति चक्षुषि तत्क्षमे ॥ ४२ ॥
O good sage, though he has ears man does not listen to what is beneficial to him. Even when he has competent eyes he does not see what is good.
english translation
na zRNoti paraM zreyassati karNe'pi sanmune ॥ na pazyati paraM zreyassati cakSuSi tatkSame ॥ 42 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमे पथि शनैर्गच्छन् स्खलतीव पदेपदे ॥ सत्यां बुद्धौ न जानाति बोध्यमानो बुधैरपि ॥ ४३ ॥
Walking slowly on the level, even path he falters at every step. Even when he has intellect, even when he is enlightened by scholars he does not understand.
english translation
same pathi zanairgacchan skhalatIva padepade ॥ satyAM buddhau na jAnAti bodhyamAno budhairapi ॥ 43 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंसारे क्लिश्यते तेन गर्भलोभवशानुगः ॥ गर्भस्मृतेन पापेन समुज्झितमतिः पुमान् ॥ ४४॥
Thereby, urged and prompted by great greed he suffers pain and distress in the world. His intellect no longer remembers the sins he committed which he remembered in the womb.
english translation
saMsAre klizyate tena garbhalobhavazAnugaH ॥ garbhasmRtena pApena samujjhitamatiH pumAn ॥ 44॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्थं महत्परं दिव्यं शास्त्रमुक्तं शिवेन तु ॥ तपसः कथनार्थाय स्वर्गमोक्षप्रसाधनम् ॥ ४५ ॥
This great divine Śāstra has been narrated by Śiva in the context of penance as a means to achieving heaven and salvation.

itthaM mahatparaM divyaM zAstramuktaM zivena tu ॥ tapasaH kathanArthAya svargamokSaprasAdhanam ॥ 45 ॥
