एवमेतच्छरीरं हि निसर्गादशुचि स्मृतम् ।। त्वङ्मात्रसारं निःसारं कदलीसारसन्निभम् ।। ३१ ।।

Thus as the body is naturally unclean it is worthless. Like the inner stump of the plantain tree it has only the outer skin as substantial.

ज्ञात्वैवं दोषवद्देहं यः प्राज्ञश्शिथिलो भवेत् ।। देह भोगोद्भवाद्भावाच्छमचित्तः प्रसन्नधीः ।। ३२ ।।

A wise man who knows that the body is thus defective becomes relaxed The body is the source of pleasure and the mind is calm and the mind is happy.

jJAtvaivaM doSavaddehaM yaH prAjJazzithilo bhavet || deha bhogodbhavAdbhAvAcchamacittaH prasannadhIH || 32 ||

सोऽतिक्रामति संसारं जीवन्मुक्तः प्रजायते ।। संसारं कदलीसारदृढग्राह्यवतिष्ठते ।। ३३ ।।

He transcends this world and is born alive and liberated. The world remains firmly grasped by the banana essence.

so'tikrAmati saMsAraM jIvanmuktaH prajAyate || saMsAraM kadalIsAradRDhagrAhyavatiSThate || 33 ||

एवमेतन्महाकष्टं जन्म दुःखं प्रकीर्तितम् ।। पुंसामज्ञानदोषेण नानाकार्मवशेन च ।। ३४ ।।

Thus the misery of life is proclaimed to be grievous and painful to men due to the fault of ignorance and the influence of different activities.

श्लोकार्धेन तु वक्ष्यामि यदुक्तं ग्रन्थकोटिभिः ।। ममेति परमं दुःखं न ममेति परं सुखम् ।। ३५ ।।

I shall explain in half a stanza what is mentioned in crores of books. The feeling of “My-ness” is the greatest affliction. The feeling of “not-my-ness” is the greatest joy.

zlokArdhena tu vakSyAmi yaduktaM granthakoTibhiH || mameti paramaM duHkhaM na mameti paraM sukham || 35 ||
