कायस्सुगंधधूपाद्यैर्य न्नेनापि सुसंस्कृतः ।। न जहाति स्वभावं स श्वपुच्छमिव नामितम्।। ११।।

Inspite of being smeared and sanctified assiduously by sweet scents, incense and other things the body does not eschew its nature like the curved tail of a dog.

english translation

kAyassugaMdhadhUpAdyairya nnenApi susaMskRtaH || na jahAti svabhAvaM sa zvapucchamiva nAmitam|| 11||

यथा जात्यैव कृष्णोर्थः शुक्लस्स्यान्न ह्युपायतः।। संशोद्ध्यमानापि तथा भवेन्मूर्तिर्न निर्मला ।। १२ ।।

Just as an object, naturally black, cannot become white by any means, so also the physical body does not become clean though it is scrubbed and cleaned.

english translation

yathA jAtyaiva kRSNorthaH zuklassyAnna hyupAyataH|| saMzoddhyamAnApi tathA bhavenmUrtirna nirmalA || 12 ||

जिघ्रन्नपि स्वदुर्गंधं पश्यन्नपि स्वकं मलम् ।। न विरज्येत लोकोऽयं पीडयन्नपि नासिकाम् ।। १३।।

Though he smells his own noxious odour, though he sees his own dirt, no man becomes detached and keeps his hand on his nose.

english translation

jighrannapi svadurgaMdhaM pazyannapi svakaM malam || na virajyeta loko'yaM pIDayannapi nAsikAm || 13||

अहो मोहस्य माहात्म्यं येनेदं छादितं जगत् ।। शीघ्रं पश्यन्स्वकं दोषं कायस्य न विरज्यते ।। १४।।

Wonderful indeed is this great delusion whereby the whole universe is enveloped. He does not observe the impurities of his body and become disgusted with it.

english translation

aho mohasya mAhAtmyaM yenedaM chAditaM jagat || zIghraM pazyansvakaM doSaM kAyasya na virajyate || 14||

स्वदेहस्य विगंधेन न विरज्येत यो नरः ।। विरागकारणं तस्य किमेतदुपदिश्यते ।। १५ ।।

If a man is not detached from the world due to the foetal smell of his own what other cause of detachment can be imparted to him?

english translation

svadehasya vigaMdhena na virajyeta yo naraH || virAgakAraNaM tasya kimetadupadizyate || 15 ||
