सनत्कुमार उवाच ।। रविचन्द्रमसोर्यावन्मयूखा भासयंति हि।। तावत्प्रमाणा पृथिवी भूलोकस्स तु गीयते ।। १।।

sanskrit

Sanatkumāra said:— The extent to which the rays of the sun and the moon shine and illuminate is the size of the earth. It is called Bhūloka.

english translation

sanatkumAra uvAca || ravicandramasoryAvanmayUkhA bhAsayaMti hi|| tAvatpramANA pRthivI bhUlokassa tu gIyate || 1||

भूमेर्योजनलक्षे तु संस्थितं रविमण्डलम् ।। योजनानां सहस्राणि सदैव परिसंख्यया।। २।।

sanskrit

The orb of the sun is situated at a distance of one lakh yojanas from the earth Thousands of yojanas always in number.

english translation

bhUmeryojanalakSe tu saMsthitaM ravimaNDalam || yojanAnAM sahasrANi sadaiva parisaMkhyayA|| 2||

शशिनस्तु प्रमाणाय जगतः परिचक्षते।। रवेरूर्ध्वं शशी तस्थौ लक्षयोजनसंख्यया।। ३।।

sanskrit

The moon is considered to be the proof of the world The moon stood above the sun for a distance of one lakh yojanas.

english translation

zazinastu pramANAya jagataH paricakSate|| raverUrdhvaM zazI tasthau lakSayojanasaMkhyayA|| 3||

ग्रहाणां मण्डलं कृत्स्नं शशेरुपरि संस्थितम्।। सनक्षत्रं सहस्राणि दशैव परितोपरि ।। ४।।

sanskrit

The spheres of the planets are entirely situated above the moon along with the stars about ten thousand Yojanas one above the other.

english translation

grahANAM maNDalaM kRtsnaM zazerupari saMsthitam|| sanakSatraM sahasrANi dazaiva paritopari || 4||

बुधस्तस्मादथो काव्यस्तस्माद्भौमस्य मण्डलम्।। बृहस्पतिस्तदूर्ध्वं तु तस्योपरि शनैश्चरः।। ५।।

sanskrit

Budha (Mercury); above that is Kāvya (Venus): above that is the sphere of Bhauma (Mars). Bṛhaspati (Jupiter) is above that and Śanaiścara (Saturn) is above that.

english translation

budhastasmAdatho kAvyastasmAdbhaumasya maNDalam|| bRhaspatistadUrdhvaM tu tasyopari zanaizcaraH|| 5||
