पृथ्वीदानं महाश्रेष्ठं सर्वकामफलप्रदम् ।। सौवर्णं च विशेषेण यत्कृतं पृथुना पुरा ।। ११ ।।

sanskrit

Gift of lands is very excellent and it yields the fruits of all desires. The gift of gold is also excellent and it was made by king Pṛthu formerly.

english translation

pRthvIdAnaM mahAzreSThaM sarvakAmaphalapradam || sauvarNaM ca vizeSeNa yatkRtaM pRthunA purA || 11 ||

दीयमानां प्रपश्यंति पृथ्वीं रुक्मसमन्विताम् ।। सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तास्ते यांति परमां गतिम् ।। १२ ।।

sanskrit

If plots of lands are given along with gold it is praiseworthy. They become liberated from all sins and attain the greatest goal.

english translation

dIyamAnAM prapazyaMti pRthvIM rukmasamanvitAm || sarvapApavinirmuktAste yAMti paramAM gatim || 12 ||

अथान्यच्च प्रवक्ष्यामि दानं सर्वोत्तमं मुने ।। कांतारं यन्न पश्यंति यमस्य बहुदुःखदम् ।। १३ ।।

sanskrit

O sage, I shall mention another gift which is the most excellent and whereby people do not see the forest of Yama, the cause of many miseries.

english translation

athAnyacca pravakSyAmi dAnaM sarvottamaM mune || kAMtAraM yanna pazyaMti yamasya bahuduHkhadam || 13 ||

कुर्यात्कांतारदानं हि विधिना शुद्धमानसः ।। न्यायार्जितेन द्रव्येण वित्तशाठ्यविवर्जितः ।। १४।।

sanskrit

One shall make the charitable gift of forest with due observance of rules and pious mind. The wealth shall be earned by justiciable means. The donee shall be devoid of stinginess associated with affluence.

english translation

kuryAtkAMtAradAnaM hi vidhinA zuddhamAnasaH || nyAyArjitena dravyeNa vittazAThyavivarjitaH || 14||

तिलप्रस्थमयीं कृत्वा धेनुं सर्वगुणान्विताम् ।। धेनुवत्सं सुवर्णं च सुदिव्यं सर्वलक्षणम् ।। १५।।

sanskrit

Make a cow with all the qualities of sesame seeds and flour. The calf of the cow was golden and very divine with all the characteristics.

tilaprasthamayIM kRtvA dhenuM sarvaguNAnvitAm || dhenuvatsaM suvarNaM ca sudivyaM sarvalakSaNam || 15||
