राजसूयेन यत्पुण्यमग्निष्टोमशतेन च ॥ तत्पुण्यं लभते शंभोः कथाश्रवणमात्रतः ॥ २१ ॥
Merely by listening to the story of Śiva one derives the merit similar to that resulting from Rājasūya and a hundred Agniṣṭoma rites.
english translation
सर्वतीर्थावगाहेन गां कोटिप्रदानतः ॥ तत् फलं लभते शंभोः कथाश्रवणतो मुने ॥ २२ ॥
O sage, by listening to the story of Śiva one derives the benefit and merit derived from ablution in the sacred rivers and from gifting away a crore of cows.
english translation
ये शृण्वंति कथां शंभोस्सदा भुवनपावनीम् ॥ ते मनुष्या न मंतव्या रुद्रा एव न संशयः ॥ २३ ॥
Those who constantly listen to Śiva’s story that sanctifies the worlds are not mere human beings, they are Rudras. There is no doubt in this.
english translation
शृण्वतां शिवसत्कीर्तिं सतां कीर्तयतां च ताम् ॥ पदाम्बुजरजांस्येव तीर्थानि मुनयो विदुः ॥ २४॥
Sages consider the dust in the lotus-feet of those who listen to the holy glory of Śiva and those who constantly glorify it, to be as holy as the holy centres.
english translation
गंतुं निःश्रेयसं स्थानं येऽभिवांछन्ति देहिनः ॥ कथां पौराणिकीं शैवीं भक्त्या शृण्वंतु ते सदा ॥ २५॥
Let those embodied beings who desire to attain salvation listen always the Purāṇic story of Śiva with devotion.
