अपि सर्वेश्वरः स्थाणुर्विष्णु श्चैव सनातनः ।। ब्रह्मा हुताशनः शक्रो ये चान्ये तपसान्विताः ।। ४६।।

Also the Lord of all is stable and eternal Vishnu. Brahma, Fire, Indra and others who were engaged in austerities.

Eighty-eight thousand sages of high blood They enjoy austerities in heaven together with the gods.

तपसा लभ्यते राज्यं स च शक्रस्सुरेश्वरः ।। तपसाऽपालयत्सर्वमहन्यहनि वृत्रहा ।। ४८।।

Kingdoms are achieved through penance. Indra, the lord of gods and the slayer of Vṛtra, protects everything day by day through penance.

tapasA labhyate rAjyaM sa ca zakrassurezvaraH || tapasA'pAlayatsarvamahanyahani vRtrahA || 48||

सूर्य्याचन्द्रमसौ देवौ सर्वलोकहिते रतौ ।। तपसैव प्रकाशंते नक्षत्राणि ग्रहास्तथा ।। ४९।।

Due to penance (tapas), the lords Sun and the Moon are engaged in the welfare of the worlds. The stars and the planets too shine by virtue of their penance.

sUryyAcandramasau devau sarvalokahite ratau || tapasaiva prakAzaMte nakSatrANi grahAstathA || 49||

न चास्ति तत्सुखं लोके यद्विना तपसा किल।। तपसैव सुखं सर्वमिति वेदविदो विदुः ।। ५० ।।

There is no happiness in the world that can be gained without penance. The knowers of the Vedas understand that all happiness is attained through penance alone.

na cAsti tatsukhaM loke yadvinA tapasA kila|| tapasaiva sukhaM sarvamiti vedavido viduH || 50 ||
