पूर्वं श्रुतं मया चैव व्रतन्तस्य भयंकरम् ॥ शृणु ते निगदाम्यद्य यदि ते श्रवणे रुचिः ॥१६॥
A previous terrible activity of His has been heard by me. If you are interested in hearing I shall tell you.
english translation
दक्षस्य दुहिता साध्वी सती वृषभवाहनम्॥ वव्रे पतिं पुरा दैवात्तत्संभोगः परिश्रुतः ॥१७॥
Dakṣa’s daughter, the chaste lady Satī wooed Vṛṣabhavāhana. (Śiva) as her husband. Fortunately their union was well known.
english translation
कपालिजायेति सती दक्षेण परिवर्जिता ॥ यज्ञे भागप्रदानाय शंभुश्चापि विवर्जितः ॥१८॥
Satī was discarded by Dakṣa because she was the wife of the skull-bearing Śiva. Śiva too was eschewed in the allocation of shares in the sacrifice.

सा तथैवापमानेन भृशं कोपाकुला सती ॥ तत्याजासून्प्रियांस्तत्र तया त्यक्तश्च शंकरः ॥१९॥
On account of the insult Satī was infuriated and she discarded her dear life. Śiva too was abandoned by her.

त्वं स्त्रीरत्नं तव पिता राजा निखिल भूभृताम् ॥ तथाविधं पतिं कस्मादुग्रेण तपसेहसे ॥2-3-27-२०॥
You are a jewel among women. Your father is the king of all mountains. Why do you crave for a husband like this and that too by means of a severe penance?
