ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ सुरैरेवं स्तुतश्शंभुर्हरिणा च मया भृशम् ॥ भक्तवात्सल्यतो ध्यानाद्विरतोभून्महेश्वरः ॥४६॥
Śiva was thus eulogised by the gods, Viṣṇu and me. He, the great lord, ceased His meditation due to His attachment for His devotees.
english translation
उवाच सुप्रसन्नात्मा हर्यादीन्हर्षयन्हरः ॥ विलोक्य करुणादृष्ट्या शंकरो भक्तवत्सलः ॥४७॥
The delighted Śiva said heightening the pleasure of Viṣṇu and other gods, after glancing at them with merciful looks. Śiva is favourably disposed to His devotees.
english translation
शंकर उवाच ॥ हे हरे हे विधे देवाश्शक्राद्या युगपत्समे ॥ किमर्थमागता यूयं सत्यं ब्रूत ममाग्रतः ॥ ४८ ॥
Śiva said: O, Viṣṇu, O Brahmā, O Indra and other gods, why have you all collectively come here in my presence? Tell me the truth.
english translation
हरिरुवाच ॥ सर्वज्ञस्त्वं महेशान त्वंतर्याम्यखिलेश्वरः ॥ किं न जानासि चित्तस्थं तथा वच्म्यपि शासनात् ॥ ४९ ॥
Viṣṇu said: O great lord, you are omniscient. You are the immanent being and the lord of all. Don’t you know what is in our mind? Still I speak at you bidding.
english translation
तारकासुरतो दुःखं संभूतं विविधं मृड ॥ सर्वेषां नस्तदर्थं हि प्रसन्नोऽकारि वै सुरैः ॥ 2-3-24-५० ॥
O Śiva, many kinds of miseries have befallen us due to the demon Tāraka. It is for that that you have been propitiated by the gods.
