तथा तया तपस्तप्तं मुनीनामपि दुष्करम् ।। स्मृत्वा च पुरुषास्तत्र परमं विस्मयं गताः ।। ६१ ।।

She performed penance difficult to be performed even by the sages, so much so that people were struck with surprise.

tathA tayA tapastaptaM munInAmapi duSkaram || smRtvA ca puruSAstatra paramaM vismayaM gatAH || 61 ||

तत्तपोदर्शनार्थं हि समाजग्मुश्च तेऽखिलाः ।। धन्यान्निजान्मन्यमाना जगदुश्चेति सम्मताः ।। ६२ ।।

All of them came there to witness her penance. Considering themselves blessed, they proclaimed thus approvingly.

tattapodarzanArthaM hi samAjagmuzca te'khilAH || dhanyAnnijAnmanyamAnA jagaduzceti sammatAH || 62 ||

महतां धर्म्मवृद्धेषु गमनं श्रेय उच्यते ।। प्रमाणं तपसो नास्ति मान्यो धर्म्मस्सदा बुधैः ।। ६३ ।।

To follow the standard of the virtuous personages is declared to be conducive to greatness. There is no delimitation in penance. Virtue shall be honoured by the wise always.

english translation

mahatAM dharmmavRddheSu gamanaM zreya ucyate || pramANaM tapaso nAsti mAnyo dharmmassadA budhaiH || 63 ||

श्रुत्वा दृष्ट्वा तपोऽस्यास्तु किमन्यैः क्रियते तपः ।। अस्मात्तपोऽधिकं लोके न भूतं न भविष्यति ।। ६४ ।।

After seeing or hearing about the penance of this lady what penance will be pursued by a man? A penance greater than this has never been before, nor will it ever be.

english translation

zrutvA dRSTvA tapo'syAstu kimanyaiH kriyate tapaH || asmAttapo'dhikaM loke na bhUtaM na bhaviSyati || 64 ||

जल्पंत इति ते सर्वे सुप्रशस्य शिवातपः ।। जग्मुः स्वं धाम मुदिताः कठिनांगाश्च ये ह्यपि ।। ६५ ।।

Saying thus, they praised the penance of Pārvatī and joyously returned to their abodes. Even persons of sturdy countenance praised her penance.

jalpaMta iti te sarve suprazasya zivAtapaH || jagmuH svaM dhAma muditAH kaThinAMgAzca ye hyapi || 65 ||
