इन्द्र त्वं किं न जानासि महादेवस्य विक्रमम् ॥ भस्मी कृतः पविस्ते हि हरेण क्रूरकर्मणा ॥ २१ ॥
O Indra, don’t you know the valour of the great lord? Śiva had once ruthlessly reduced your thunderbolt to ashes.
english translation
हे सुराः किन्न जानीथ महादेवस्य विक्रमम् ॥ अत्रे वसिष्ठ मुनयो युष्माभिः किं कृतं त्विह ॥ २२ ॥
O devas, don’t you know the valour of Mahādeva, O Atri, O Vasiṣṭha, O, sages what have you all done here?
english translation
भिक्षाटनं च कृतवान् पुरा दारुवने विभुः ॥ शप्तो यद्भिक्षुको रुद्रो भवद्भिर्मुनिभिस्तदा ॥ २३ ॥
The all-pervading Lord once performed alms-begging (bhikṣāṭana) in the Daru forest, when Rudra (Śiva), in the form of a beggar, was cursed by you sages at that time.
english translation
शप्तेनापि च रुद्रेण यत्कृतं विस्मृतं कथम् ॥ तल्लिंगेनाखिलं दग्धं भुवनं सचराचरम् ॥ २४ ॥
Even though Rudra was cursed, how can one forget what he did? With that Liṅga (form), the entire universe, both mobile and immobile, was consumed (burned).
english translation
सर्वे मूढाश्च संजाता विष्णुब्रह्मादयस्सुराः ॥ मुनयोऽन्ये विना शंभुमागता यदिहाध्वरे ॥ २५ ॥
All of you, Viṣṇu, Brahmā, gods, sages and others have turned foolish since you have assembled here without Śiva.
